What Is Snoring?

0

Snoring is defined as being a coarse sound that is made as a result of the vibrations of the soft palate and other tissues in the mouth, nose and throat. Snoring is a very common problem among both men and women, although it is much more common in men. Snoring is caused by a partial blockage, a blockage that may be located anywhere from the tip of the nose to the vocal chords.

Causes

As for causes, there are actually quite a few. The more narrowed your airway, the more forceful airflow becomes. And when you are sleeping your palate relaxes, which is why you only snore when you are sleeping and usually not when you are awake.

Your mouth anatomy has a major part in whether you will snore or not, as people who have a low, thick soft palate or enlarged tonsils will be much more likely to than those who do not. Alcohol consumption is another major cause of this condition, especially if you drink too much alcohol right before going to bed.

How To Deal With It

Snoring can cause someone many problems in their life, and will not only disrupt their life but the ones they love as well. If you have a partner who sleeps in bed with you, they may begin to have sleeping problems as a result of your snoring problem, and so as a result you are going to need to know how to deal with the condition.

There are various stop snoring aids and treatments that are out there. And for more serious cases there is even the snoring surgery that you can go through with, although your doctor will need to approve this. If you are interested in having the surgery, which may just be your best bet if you have tried other methods in the past to no avail, you will want to make an appointment with your doctor so they can assess and decide whether or not you are going to be an eligible candidate for the procedure.

This is certainly not a dangerous condition, at least not for the most part, but it can definitely be frustrating and annoying to deal with. So most likely you are going to want to find a way to deal with it and get rid of or at least relieve the symptoms. Whether or not you are interested in the surgery you should still speak to your doctor, as they will be able to inform you and offer you helpful tips and advice.
