Protect Your Children by Using an Infant Apnea Monitor

0

If you notice that your newborn’s breathing seems to be irregular while he sleeps, it would be a good idea to start using an infant apnea monitor for his protection and your reassurance. Sleep apnea is a very serious disorder that is manifested by the frequent cessation of breathing as a person sleeps at night. It can be very difficult to witness an adult experiencing this disorder, and it’s much worse when it happens to your own child.

The good news is that sleep apnea is completely treatable. However, before the treatments kick in, you should be able to observe your infant as he sleeps in order to make sure that nothing is going awry. Obviously, watching your baby the whole time he is sleeping can be difficult to accomplish when you have chores to do around the house and other responsibilities to take care of. For this reason, using an infant apnea monitor is recommended.

Most babies sleep very quietly and it will usually be hard to discern if they are actually breathing or not. With adults, it is easier because they will wake up on their own and they will know that they did stop breathing as they slept. Babies do wake up as well but they obviously can’t tell you the reason why. As a parent, it can be frustrating and scary to see your child suffering through such an ordeal. But when you have an infant apnea monitor, you can easily know when your baby stops breathing so you can rush to his side to wake him up.

How an Infant Apnea Monitor Works

Using an infant apnea monitor is pretty much the same as using a regular baby monitor. One unit is positioned near where the baby is sleeping while you can take the receiving unit with you as you move around the house. This device can certainly put a parent’s mind at ease while their baby is sleeping even when they are in different rooms of the house. Even when you are sleeping, you can still feel secure because the monitor will sound an alarm to let you know when the baby stops breathing.

If you are worried about the availability of infant apnea monitors in stores, you need not be concerned. These gadgets are quite accessible today due to the increasing awareness about the dangers of sleep apnea in infants.
