What Are The Dangers Of Sleep Apnea?
If you think that sleep apnea is just about snoring and it’s nothing to be concerned about, then you should be aware of the dangers of sleep apnea.
Sleep apnea isn’t just snoring, it is just a symptom of a bigger problem, and when you ignore it, you might find that you wind up with much more serious health problems. It is a sleeping disorder, which means that if you suffer from this condition, one of the biggest health risks to you is the way you won’t be sleeping night after night. Sleep apnea can prevent you from slipping into the deep sleep that your body so desperately needs, so this is one thing to consider when you’re deciding to seek treatment.
There are other dangers of sleep apnea. When a person suffers from this condition, it may be that something is obstructing their airway, which means that they will often stop breathing for a few seconds. In some cases, this can cause oxygen deprivation to areas of the body, such as the brain, which can lead to headaches when you wake up in the morning.
It’s also likely that if you suffer from this condition, you are excessively sleepy during the day and this can put you at risk of falling asleep when you’re doing things such as driving. You might also find that you are unable to concentrate on tasks for too long and you are beginning to feel anxious and depressed. This is caused from your sleep apnea and can be resolved.
Can You Treat Sleep Apnea?
You can actually treat many forms of sleep apnea quite easily. By making lifestyle changes such as changing your sleep positions, losing some weight and even doing some exercises to strengthen the soft palette and throat can help you to fight and reduce the severity of your condition.
If you sleep on your back, consider turning on your side which will help to reduce your snoring and keep your airways open. You can prop yourself up with pillows behind your back to keep yourself on your side if you think you will wind up on your back, but usually if you fall asleep on your side, you’ll find that you stay there for most of the night.
One factor that contributes to the dangers of sleep apnea, is being overweight. You should consider losing weight if you suffer from sleep apnea, as it is thought that this is a major contributor to your condition. This is especially true if you carry additional weight around your neck, which could be causing your airways to become obstructed at night or when you lie down.
You do need to know that even though there are dangers to sleep apnea, it can also be fairly easily treated in many cases, so if you think you have this condition, it’s time to get it checked out and work on getting rid of your snoring, and sleepiness for good. Treat your sleep apnea and you will find that you will begin to feel good, look rested and begin to get better sleep.
