A Sleeping Problem During Pregnancy Is Normal
Firstly sleeping problems during pregnancy are normal and many adults suffer from regular sleeping problems. These can be caused from stress, pain, anxiety or a bad mattress and the inability to become comfortable. For most adults who suffer from sleeping problems, the situation will usually resolve itself within a short time and you will find that you can get back to sleeping with minimal issues, but sometimes, such as during pregnancy, it can seem that your whole life becomes a sleeping problem. Why wouldn’t it after all; you’re body is changing, you’re worried that everything will be fine and, did we mention that your body is changing?
As I already said sleeping problems during pregnancy are normal. After a time, it can feel uncomfortable to sleep on your back because of the weight of the baby. For many women, when they sleep on their back, it can feel as if they cannot breathe or their stomach and back can begin to hurt. This means that once you get to be a certain size during your pregnancy, your sleeping position options can become pretty limited.
Usually, when the sleeping problem is due to a lack of comfortable positions, you might find that it’s helpful to put a pillow between your knees, or even rest your belly on a pillow. The pillow will help to prop the weight of the baby so that you’re truly able to rest without feeling as if your skin might tear. Many women choose to get a full length body pillow, which they then use to put against them and prop whatever feels out of place, such as legs, belly and arms so that they can get more comfortable.
Other causes of sleeping problems during pregnancy could be leg cramps and stuffy noses. When you add these to stress and worry over the health of the baby, weight gain of the mother and other changes brought about by hormones, it might seem like a miracle that any pregnant woman can get sleep. You should know that there are remedies to all these problems; however, you just have to know what you’re looking for.
If you are suffering from sleeping problems due to leg cramps or pain in any part of your body, you can ask your partner to massage the affected area to help loosen the tension in these areas. This will often help you to sleep better. You should also consider eating a banana once in a while to ensure you have enough potassium, which can ease leg cramps that often occur with pregnancy.
You might also want to consider getting some exercise. This can help your body to stay loose and limber and make sleeping less of a problem, because you are working off some of the nervous energy. In the end, remember that your sleeping problems during pregnancy won’t last forever and try to relax.
