Snoring Vs. Sleep Apnea – The Differences Between Them

For the ordinary person, it can be pretty hard to differentiate snoring vs. sleep apnea without having adequate knowledge about either of them. How can you differentiate snoring vs. sleep apnea?

There are actually a number of glaring differences in snoring vs. sleep apnea. For one thing, ordinary snoring is generally a harmless albeit inconvenient disorder whereas sleep apnea can eventually lead to death if not given the proper medical treatment. The problem is that many people do not realize just how serious sleep apnea can be and mistakenly think that it is just like snoring.

Another problem in the issue of snoring vs. sleep apnea is that neither of them can always be noticed by the person suffering from the condition. Other than feeling tired upon waking up the next day, they might not even have a clue that something is wrong. On the other hand, someone who suffers from sleep apnea actually stops breathing for as long as ten seconds at a time, until he wakes up because of the lack of oxygen. In the worst cases, this can happen every five minutes all throughout the night. Unfortunately, there are instances when the person fails to wake up when he stops breathing and ends up dying in his sleep.

Although some snorers do tend to feel exhausted during the day, this is not always the case. In fact, many of them manage to sleep well at night, and even their companions eventually get used to the sound and are not bothered anymore. With sleep apnea sufferers, the fatigue upon waking up is almost always there and sooner or later, it will certainly have negative effects on their performance at work and at home.

In all the confusion of snoring vs. sleep apnea, one thing is for sure — that there are many available treatments for both of these conditions. So the moment you realize that you are suffering from either of these sleep disorders, you should see a doctor right away and get proper treatment right away.
